The main purpose behind this vow is to earn purity of the divine and prosperity. This vow is kept for a period of 14 years by the devotees. The womenfolk taught her the rituals and tied the ceremonial thread on her left hand. After that, both the husband and wife miraculously prospered. Everything was going smoothly until one day his husband Kaundinya asked her the reason for the vow and when she told him he was furious at her. An argument followed at the end of which her husband took the thread and threw it in the fire.

After this suddenly, there was a spell of misfortunes on the family and they were reduced to poverty. It was then that finally, he understood that it was all because of Anant. He had to undergo severe penance and when he finally found Anant it was revealed to him that he was none other than the supreme Lord Vishnu.

Furthermore, he was even promised by Anant that if he keeps the vow and completes it then at the end of 14 years he would successfully obtain wealth, children, and happiness which he did and lived happily after. On this very day, Ganesh Chaturthi comes to an end. And now comes the time for Ganesh Visarjan. The murti of Lord Ganesh is taken to the nearby water bodies such as a lake, river, or ocean for Visarjan.

There are colorful parades in which people who had invited Lord Ganesha to their homes take the idol for the purpose of inundating it with water. On their way to home, they found a river and went for a bath. Sushila saw some women praying and joined them and asked them about their prayer. Women explained about the Lord Anant and the significance of its vow. As Sushila was about to start a new life with her husband, she thought that it is best to pray and take the blessings from Lord Ananat for a prosperous future life.

She followed all the rituals, took the vow, and tied a ceremonial thread on her left hand. One day Kaundinya questions the blessings of Ananta as he believed that whatever he achieved is due to his hard work and intelligence. Sushila and Kaundinya argued over this point and took away the anant string and threw it in the fire. After it, they experienced many misfortunes and it ended in them driven to poverty. Hence, then Kaundinya realised that it is the Ananta strings and rituals which was the reason behind the happiness and prosperity.

Kundaniya goes through severe penance and ask for forgiveness from Ananta who revealed himself as a God Vishnu. There is a story about it which is as follows- 'When Duryoddhan went to meet the Pandavas, due to some power, Pandavas were deceived. Because of it, the land looked like water, and the water looked like land. Duryodhana took the land as water and put his clothes on it, but considering the water as land, he fell into the pool.

Draupadi scoffed at this, to take revenge for the blind son, Duryodhana conspired with his maternal uncle Shakuni, and insulted Draupadi in a gathering filled with defeating Pandavas in gambling.

One year of exile and one year for Agyatvas, fulfilling their promise, Pandavas started living in the forest. Then Yudhishthira asked Lord Krishna the solution to overcome this sorrow, upon which Krishna Ji told Yudhishthira that Lakshmi has become angry with you because of gambling, you keep Lord Vishnu should observe fast on Anant Chaturdashi. This is followed by taking a bowl filled with the famous offering to lord called as Panchamrit a mixture of curd, milk, jaggery, honey and ghee. It is kept on a wooden plank and is a symbol of divine ocean of milk, Kshirasagara. Sacred red thread Mauli with 14 knots is tied on a cucumber symbolizing Lord Anant.

It is twirled 5 times by immersing in Panchamrit. It is a symbol of protection from negativity. Devotees then tie the read thread on their wrist. Men tie on their right wrist and women on the left wrist, for a period of 14 days.

Fasting is also observed by devotees for wealth, good health and well-being. Fasting is called as Anant Vrat, continuously observed for 14 years.
